Written for a Birmingham Contemporary Music Group composer workshop on March 25th 2020. (postponed due to COVID-19)
Programme Note
Bernadette Soubirous was the witness of the Marian apparitions at Lourdes, France. Over the course of six months, the 14-year-old reported 18 apparitions of a lady, who later revealed themselves as the ‘Immaculate Conception’.
For Bernadette is dedicated to my Nan, Sheila Ann Bernadette Evenden.
Instrumentation
Flute, ideally with low B foot (not essential), Clarinet in Bb (doubling Bass Clarinet in Bb), Trombone (with straight mute), Percussion (1 player) (Vibraphone – soft and medium yarn mallets Glockenspiel – soft and medium rubber mallets, metal mallets), Harp, Violoncello, Double Bass.
